James Stephen Milot, 63, of Cashion, Okla., was called before the Heavenly Throne at 12:05am, Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017 at his home.

He was born April 6, 1953, in Los Angeles, Calif., the fifth of twelve children to Paul and Marjorie (Forsyth) Milot.

At the age of 14, Jim attended St. Anthony’s junior seminary in San Antonio, Texas. Upon graduation, and on his way home, he fell in love with the mountains of Colorado and ran out of money. It was here that he would later meet the love of his life, Kathleen McGuire of Oklahoma City, who was in the area on a ski trip and needed a ride to Mass.

They were married June 24, 1978 at what was then-St. Athanasius Chapel in Bethany.

Jim supported his family of six daughters with his exceptional skills as a fifth-generation carpenter. His craftsmanship is found in homes and churches across the Oklahoma City area.

Jim’s life was an example to many, following the footsteps of his patron St. Joseph: fidelity to his Catholic Faith, devotion to family, strong work ethic, hands-on charity, and always seeking first to do the will of God in all things. He also had a reputation for brightening anyone’s day with jokes so corny their very style was dubbed a “Jim Milot Joke” by those who knew him well.

The Milot family, with Jim at the head, lived on and maintained a five-acre pecan grove and cracking business informally known as “The Nutty Sisters.” He thoroughly enjoyed playing the banjo and had 15-minutes of fame on the evening news as he played his mandolin during fully-awake brain surgery in 2015 to remove the first of his glioblastoma tumors.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy, of the home; daughters Bridget Viersen and husband R.W. of Eureka Springs, Ark.; Regina Arledge and husband Bryan of Cashion; Molly Evinger and husband Gregory of Bethany; Monica Ingle and husband Jeremy of Dover; Teresa Valliere and husband Matthew of Oklahoma City; and Beth Gauthier and husband Joseph of Higgins, Texas; and 18 grandchildren.

Jim’s surviving siblings include Jeff Milot and wife Cathy of San Bernadino, Calif.; Mike Milot of Kihei, Hawaii; Alison Brown of Wichita, Kan.; Paul Milot of St. Louis, Mo.; Stacie Cornell and husband Dan of Omaha, Neb.; Jean Fredericks and husband Roger of Encinitas, Calif.; Tammy Heslop and husband Craig of Melvern, Kan.; David Milot of Norfolk, Va.; and Kelly Aviles and husband Jimmy of Italy.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Marjorie Milot, sister Sharon Setter, and a stillborn brother Peter.

The Rosary will be Friday at 7 p.m. at St. Damien of Molokai Catholic Church, 8455 NW 234th St., Edmond. Requiem Mass will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the same location. Internment to follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery adjoining.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John Bosco Institute, care of the parish.
