John B. Worden 1944 – 2018

John Burse Worden, known to his children and grandchildren as “Pop,” passed away on April 19, 2018 at the age of 73 years in Oklahoma City, OK. John was born into a farming family on October 11, 1944 to the late Sidney Clovis Worden and Frankie Belle Blakely in Chickasha, OK.  After graduating from high school in Lindsay, OK, John earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Oklahoma and the University of Pennsylvania.  He spent most of his professional career designing firmware and served as Executive Director of Engineers at Seagate upon his retirement in 2004. While John worked full-time as an engineer, his true love was farming.  He spent his weekends and holidays raising alfalfa, wheat and cattle. There was nothing more beautiful to him than his land, and he often said that the best talks he had with God were while driving his tractor. John’s hobbies included reading western novels, hunting deer and quail, and training his beloved bird dogs. John is survived by his wife of 38 years, Carol; sons Johnnie Eilerts and his partner Alma Vargas of Norman, OK; Kenneth Worden of Newcastle, OK; stepdaughters Lori Weber and her husband, Scott, of Highland Beach, FL; Deanna Roach and her husband, Michael, of Norman, OK; and Amy Van Leer and her husband, Darrell, of Cypress, TX.  He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Zack, Ashley, Alyssa, Caleb, Madeline, Abigail, Julia, Aaron, Beau, Daisy, and Dixie. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren and by his brothers Don Worden of Gilbert, AZ and Larry Worden of Mesa, AZ. John was preceded in death by his brother Richard Worden. A memorial service will be held at Church of the Servant in Oklahoma City on April 24 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations in memory of John may be made to Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity, 5005 I-35 S Service Rd., Oklahoma City, OK, 73129.
