Patricia Walker Horn 1938-2017

Patricia Walker Horn of Edmond, Oklahoma

Patricia Ann Walker Horn, wife, mother, grandma, caregiver, animal lover and friend to all passed away peacefully surrounded by family Thursday morning, December 28, 2017.

Born July 27, 1938 to Celeste and John Walker, Patricia Ann Walker (“Pat”) was the big sister to Timothy Walker (deceased) and Peggy Kading and the step-daughter to Helmus Wells.  She attended Divine Savior Holy Angels High School in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin and Nursing School at Milwaukee North Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. On September 9, 1961, she wed her lifelong partner, Robert Arnold Horn (“Bob”), and commenced a wonderful married life lasting 56 years and 5 months.  The couple were constant companions and best friends.  They were blessed with three children and five grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly and doted on shamelessly.

Pat will be remembered as a beautiful, sweet and gentle soul, an individual who rarely allowed a negative comment to cross her lips and one who made friends effortlessly.  Yet those friends and her family will attest she could be feisty and a bit stubborn when she deemed it necessary.  She competed with vigor throughout life and in a variety of activities, including golf, bowling and bridge.  Pat enjoyed travelling to many points of the globe, but she loved to decorate her home and to work in her gardens.  An excellent cook, she specialized in traditional recipes passed on by family members (the recipes in her head changed often, but always made it to the table more delicious than ever).  Sports spectating, another of her passions, served her well as both her children and grandchildren excelled in a variety of sports with their biggest fan along for the ride.

Pat worked hard all her life and remained active in her professional life as a Registered Nurse for 30 years caring for mentally challenged children and the elderly.  She filled her “free time” as a Docent at the Oklahoma City Zoo.  She was an active parishioner at St John the Baptist Catholic Church for almost 40 years.  Pat made a difference in the lives of many through these pursuits and remained active until her passing.

She is survived in life by her husband (Bob Horn), her children (Debbie Hill, Ginny Haisten and Bo Horn) and her grandchildren (Jamie Hill, Colin Horn, Chelsea Horn, Cameron Horn and Tyler Haisten).  A funeral mass in her honor will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 900 South Littler Street, Edmond, OK  73034 on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 10:00 am.  A post-funeral reception with lunch to follow in the church Commons.  Please fill free  share a condolences on this sight.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to support a charity in her name.  Please consider one of her favorites which includes Free to Live, a non-profit sanctuary for stray, abandoned and mistreated dogs and cats ( and Friends of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, a support organization to the school tied to St John’s Catholic Church ( Her lifelong devotion to the Catholic Church and her love of children and animals drove her charitable interests.  In fact, her beloved cat Otis was adopted from Free to Live.

The family would also like to thank the Mercy Hospital staff who took care and showed great compassion in the final days of Pat’s life.
