Vicente Maldonado 1959- 2017

With the March 9, 2017 passing of Vicente Maldonado, those who loved this gentle man now mourn his loss while also holding tight to the great love that he left behind for all those who were part of his world, both here in America, his adopted home, and in Guatemala, his birthplace. Born in October 26, 1959, Vicente was part of a large family, with nine brothers and three sisters. Vicente himself had a large family with five sons. His family was solidified when he met and married Cindy on March 1, 1996. Cindy and George (as he was called by Cindy and her family) knew they were blessed to have found each other and their strong and abiding love endured through many hardships. They were also the rock for a rapidly expanding family, as sons married, bringing to the family wonderful daughters and all their beautiful, beloved grandbabies. Vicente’s grandchildren had many different nicknames for him, but one thing was the same for all. He was their rock and their constant playmate. With an infectious grin and a mischievous glint in his eye, Vicente loved having fun with his entire family and created memories that will remain with his loved ones forever.

Vicente’s occupation was building, and he enjoyed both building and restoring homes, but his true legacy will always be the family he built. It is a legacy that will endure.

Animals of all kinds were also very special to Vicente, and the feeling was mutual. Family members liked to call Vicente the “animal whisperer,” and Vicente didn’t think a weekend was complete without bringing home one or more new animals to his barnyard. He also greatly enjoyed travel, particularly family vacations to the beaches of Galveston.

Vicente loved fun and family, and he loved both fiercely. Though he will be dearly missed, those who knew him would agree that if he could leave us a message now, it would be this: “Don’t worry about me. You – you should live your life. Have fun and love everybody. And I’ll see you later.”

With such a large family, it is difficult to list here all those who passed before and those who have survived Vicente; however, some of these individuals include his father Nichols Maldonado, who preceded him in death. Those surviving him include mother Cruz Giron, wife Cindy and her family: brothers Vicente, Dionicio, Dimas, Delfino, Jesus, Marcos and Armando and their families; also sisters Blanca, Fidelina, Carmela and their families.

Family members would like to thank those health care workers at Integris Southwest Medical Center for their care and compassion, and also would like to thank Dr. Imran Virk, who was not only Vicente’s most caring physician, but also his friend.

Those who wish to express their condolences or send flowers can do so through Absolute Economical Funeral Home, 7721 N.W. 10th, Ste. B, Oklahoma City, OK. Donations can also be made in Vicente’s memory to the Oklahoma Heart Hospital Research Foundation, 4200 W. Memorial Road, Ste 510, Oklahoma City, OK 73120.

A viewing will be held Wednesday, March 15, 2017 from 2pm to 6pm .   A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10am on Saturday March 18, 2017 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church located at 2121 N. Portland Ave in Oklahoma City.
